Ms. Jayla Doris Cayruth

Jayla Doris Cayruth, a beloved daughter and friend to all, gained her wings on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Jayla was born to the proud parents of Janine Mathews and Darrell Pannell on January 7, 1995, in Decatur, Georgia. Jayla gained her bonus dad, Chaz Mathews, when he and Janine were united in marriage in 2004. She gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She was a fun-loving and outgoing young lady known for her radiant smile and contagious laugh. To her friends, she was affectionately known as “Auntie” because she was the friend everyone turned to and the glue that kept the bond together. Jayla was a 2013 graduate of Stephenson High School and a 2017 graduate of The University of Alabama, a true “Roll Tide” fan. After graduating from college, Jayla moved back home and gained employment at Kaiser Permanente. Most recently she was employed at ABM Industries as a Badging/Recruiting Coordinator. Jayla enjoyed working at ABM Industries, she often spoke about her coworkers and how much of a good team they were. She especially spoke highly of her manager Tammy and her great leadership skills. To her, her job was not just a place of employment, but a place that was filled with laughter and love. Jayla was known for her talents, creativity, and being a visionary. She was determined and never let anything stand in her way. Traveling was a passion of Jayla’s, and she traveled every chance she got. Her favorite place to visit was Disney World. She loved her family and friends and often planned events, vacations, and special gatherings. She was a “Jill” of all trades, she had a love for cooking, and event planning was best known for her love of music, served as the DJ at all events, and was the “life of the party.” Her Saturdays would consist of tailgating and watching The University of Alabama with her mother, bonus dad, Chaz and Uncle Jeff, and Aunt Desiree, while “Sunday Fun Day” was reserved for spending time at her Aunt Brenda’s house with her best friends Jordan, Shilo, and a host of other close and dear friends. Jayla is survived by her mother, Janine Mathews, father Darrell Pannell, bonus dad Chaz Mathews, sisters Michaela Lima, and Brianna Poole, brother Darrell Gillis, bonus sisters Jada Bennet, Deidra Calvin (Chris), aunts Renee Golphin (Michael), Desiree Fagan (Jeff), Terri Wilson, Veronica Pannell, Dionna Latham, uncles Kenny Pannell, Rick Marshall, Donald Latham (DL), Darnell Latham (Vanessa), great aunts Mary Adams, Virginia Johnson, and Ernestine Mills. Jayla leaves behind special cousin Ciara Green, and best friends, Jordan Patrick, Shilo Patrick, Briasha Martin, Fumi Turner, Miiauna Felix-Serrano, and O’Rhonda Lott. Also, she leaves behind a host of cousins, aunties, and close friends. Jayla is preceded in death by her grandmothers Doris Hunt, Judy Mae Marshall, and Johnnie Mae Guildry.
