Artis J. Heard

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Artis June Heard, a remarkable soul who graced this world with his presence on April 27, 1947, in the small town of Greenville, Florida. He was born to the late James and Easter Mae Heard, Artis's journey through life was marked by resilience, determination, and a profound commitment to service. He attended Greenville Training High School, where he demonstrated his thirst for knowledge and eagerness to embrace challenges. Later, he proudly obtained his GED from Armstrong Adult Education Center in Washington, DC, on March 5, 1971. A time to love... Artis met and married Josephine Arnold and to that union, 2 children were born. Later, he married Betty Anne Heard and acquired 3 bonus children he loved and cared for as his own. His professional pursuits were equally impressive. From his tenure in the US Army, where he valiantly served his country receiving a Purple Heart commendation for acts of bravery in the Vietnam War, to his distinguished accomplishments in law enforcement and business administration, Artis demonstrated his multifaceted talents in the realm of cosmetology, where he obtained his Master of Cosmetology license. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia he united with the Calvary Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served until his health failed. On May 1, 2024, Artis bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in our hearts. He joins his cherished Grandmother, Virginia Gandy, Parents: Easter and James Heard, brother-in-law and sister Gentle and Vivian Groover, brothers: James Heard Jr. and Edward Milton, brother-in-law Arthur Walden, as well as his nephew Arthur Walden II, nieces Teresa Gurley and Beata Wilkerson, and great-grandson Arlo Evan Segura in eternal rest. Artis's memory will forever be enshrined in the hearts of his beloved wife, Betty Anne Heard, and his devoted sisters: Carolyn Addison (Leon), Katie Mae Hamm (Rosevelt -Deceased), Diane Patton (Clovis), and Marion Copeland (Elmo- Deceased). children: Kesha Heard (Harry Jackson), Netoshia Heard (Lovie), Barry Heard (Robin), Zametrice Smith, Barbara Peterson (Robert), Aricisclo Rodriquez (Judith), John Rodriquez (Daphne), Grandchildren(16), Great-Grandchildren (2). Also mourning are nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sorrowful friends. A special heartfelt appreciation to Edwina Andrews for her love and support through the years. Rest in peace Rambo, you are loved and will be forever missed.
