Our History
Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home., Inc. is a family owned and operated funeral service provider established in 1980 by Mr. Gregory B. Levett Sr. and his wife Betty. The Levett legacy of providing traditional, thoughtful and dignified funeral services spans over four generations. Mr. Levett began mastering the art of funeral service at a young age after being introduced to the industry by his father, the late Mr. George W. Levett Sr. Mr. Levett has continued the family tradition and has passed on his knowledge and love of caring for others to his children, Gregory Bernard Jr., T. Lanier, and Deana, who are all active in the day to day operations of the business. The company now includes four locations in Metropolitan Atlanta. It employs 100 staff members and ten licensed funeral directors who are on call 24 hours a day to serve families of all nationalities who entrust their loves ones to our care.
In 1990, Gregory and Betty Levett established their first location in Scottdale, Georgia. This 5,000 square foot facility still serves as the company’s corporate headquarters. Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., rapidly outgrew their Scottdale location because of their compassion and careful consideration of others during their time of bereavement. In 2000, Mr. Levett and his family established their second funeral home in Decatur, Georgia. This 9,000 square foot chapel continues to serve over 900 families annually. In 2004, Mr. Levett established the only African American owned and operated funeral home in the South Gwinnett area. This state-of-the-art facility spans over 12,000 square feet and features six large private rooms, large conference rooms, adequate parking and a 350 seat chapel. Mr. Levett is a visionary and always seeking ways to improve and expand his legacy, so in 2009 he acquired his fourth and largest funeral home to date in Buford, Georgia which features an onsite crematory, intimate viewing rooms and a state-of-the-art showroom.
Mr. Levett credits his success to providing each family he serves with the best customer service, dignity and professionalism. His vision is to have Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. globally recognized as the premiere funeral home serving the Metropolitan Atlanta area, with a reputation for excellence and first class service. Mr. Levett has instilled his values and compassion for grieving families into his staff and believes it is their mission to serve every family with reliable and dignified services. It has been an honor to serve the families of celebrities and dignitaries, as well as families from all types of nationalities, religions, and languages over our 32 year history. Mr. Levett and his family continuously express their commitment to others and pour back into their community by being active members in a variety of organizations and making generous donations to various charities.

Mr. Gregory B. Levett Sr., Founder / CEO
Gregory B. Levett Sr. is the founder, owner and chief executive officer of Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. Born and raised in Conyers, Georgia, he was introduced to the funeral service industry at a very early age by his father and has been serving families throughout the metro Atlanta area for over 30 years. His commitment and compassion for the families he serves has earned him a reputation for providing excellent customer service, professionalism and dignified funeral service to people of all nationalities and languages. He is a visionary and philanthropist, always seeking ways to improve and expand his business. Gregory and his wife, Betty, opened their first chapel in 1980 in Scottdale, Georgia. They have since expanded their family business to include three additional chapels in Lawrenceville, GA., Buford, GA. and Decatur, GA. Before the establishment of his first funeral home, Mr. Levett used his entrepreneurial talents to acquire a Radio Shack franchise and was also the manager of a local grocery store. He became a licensed Funeral Director in 1973 and continues to master the art funeral service by regularly attending classes and conferences. He continuously shares his wealth of knowledge with other aspiring funeral directors and business owners by speaking at various engagements. Gregory and Betty Levett have three children; Gregory Jr., T. Lanier and Deana, who are all active in the day-to-day operations of the family business. Not only does Mr. Levett devote his time and talents to his family and the families who entrust their loved ones to his care, but he openly expresses his love for others as a very active leader in the community. He is a member and former president of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, former president of the Dekalb Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, former member of the City of Decatur Public School Board Council, lifetime member of the NAACP and former president of the Salem Gate Merchants Association. He also serves as a member on the Board of Directors for the DeKalb Medical Center, and chairman of the Dekalb Hospital Authority which oversees 250 million dollars worth of hospital bonds annually. He and his wife Betty also made the largest donation to the Dekalb Medical Center (Hillandale) by a minority since 1961 and because of their generosity, the hospital created the Gregory B. Levett Sr. and Betty H. Levett Emergency Department Reception in their honor. Mr. Levett and his family have donated over $1 million to various charities and organizations throughout their 30 years of service. Mr. Levett humbly states that he desires to leave a legacy of service to the communities of families that have supported him since his opening day and that, “I work hard simply to help provide opportunity and assistance to the community.”
